Ukrainian passenger flight belonging to the Ukraine International was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile by Iran’s military after a series of errors. The Boeing 737 was down shortly after take-off.
The Air Defence unit seems to have misread the heading of the plane and failed to identify if the plane was a passenger flight or a fighter flight.
The defense team fired two missiles without authorization and confirmation which led to a brutal incident of killing 176 passengers and crew.
Iran had been on war since time and tensions in the region took a peak immediately before the crash. Iran started firing missiles at bases with US troops in Iraq.
Air traffic control responsibility in the region was passed from the civil authorities to the military commanders. Passenger flights were still allowed to operate and monitored.
