BJP Chief Nadda said that Rajiv Gandhi Foundation got funds from PMNRF during the UPA regime. He said “Totally reprehensible, disregarding ethics, processes and not bothering about transparency,” in a tweet.
The previous accusation of RGF receiving funds from the Chinese Embassy in Delhi came from the BJP government and the statements said, receiving funds from the Chinese Embassy was to advocate a free trade agreement with China.
The current accusation is of receiving funds from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund receives money from citizens and organizations with a view of deploying relief to those affected by natural and man-made disasters.
Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has the Gandhi family members on board.
An annual report for the year 2005-2006 & 2007-2008 shown that PMNRF donated funds to it.
“People of India donated their hard-earned money to PMNRF to help their fellow citizens in need. To divert this public money into a family-run foundation is not only a brazen fraud but also a big betrayal of the people of India,” he said.
“One family’s hunger for wealth has cost the nation immensely. If only they have devoted their energies towards a more constructive agenda. The Congress’ Imperial Dynasty needs to apologize to the unchecked loot for self-gains!” he added.
