Nanjamma, the 60-year old singer-actor, who shot to fame with her soulful songs in ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ makes her debut on a video sharing platform. Her debut isn’t an attempt to cope up with the trend, but a small initiative towards keeping her roots and culture intact.
In an exclusive interview with ETimes, Nanjamma speaks about her debut on the video-sharing platform.
“I just returned back from the fields. The cattle were grazing and collecting grass for them,” Nanjamma said.
The viral singer and actor had been working for nearly 4-5 hours in the fields, but she didn’t even give a sigh of tiredness. She was high spirited as usual and had her patent innocent laugh.
When asked about making her debut on the video-sharing platform, Nanjamma said, “You can see my song. We have recorded it. We will do more songs when the coronavirus scare is gone.”
Nanjamma doesn’t know much about what the video-sharing platform is or how it works, but she knows one thing for sure that she will be able to sing for her fans, whom she refers to as her ‘makkal’ (children).
“It’s good, isn’t it? I can sing. All my children who love me will be able to hear. Our Attappady’s song will reach more people,” Nanjamma said, clearly admitting her love for songs and the culture she lives in.
Nanjamma is a member of Azad Kalasangam, a cultural troupe. Palaniswamy, the leader of the troupe, has been a constant friend and supporter of Nanjamma, who is now helping her to make a debut on the video-sharing platform.
Meanwhile, Nanjamma has some exciting projects in her kitty. She has recently filmed her portion for ‘Station Five’, in which she will be sharing the screen with National Award Winning actor Indrans and also former footballer IM Vijayan.
