Confusion at airports as India resumes domestic flights. Flights resumed in India on May 25 after a two-month halt due to the pandemic. However, individual states are responsible for airport procedures and quarantine protocols, leading to confusion within passengers and dozens of last-minute flight cancellations.

Steps were taken to accommodate government guidelines, but there were differences in each state.
“Many states like Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu were opposed to opening up of their airports in view of rising cases of the coronavirus infection, making it difficult for the airlines as well as the civil aviation authorities to resume services.”
The cancellations are on account of states of like Maha, Andhra, Tamil Nadu & Bengal conveying to the Centre during the negotiations yesterday that they won’t be able to operate as many flights as agreed upon.
At Delhi Airport as of now, approx 80 flights (departure & arrival) stand canceled. What a harrowing time for passengers who booked to fly today as soon as domestic flight reservations opened! Some even struggling to reach the airport to find out their flight stands canceled.
While Centre’s guidelines require arriving passengers to self-monitor their health for 14 days, states are free to develop their own protocol for isolation and quarantine of incoming passengers.
